R.C.I.A.
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
A Journey in Faith
When people ask us what’s most important in our lives, many of us may answer them, “My family, of course.” Caring families are precious. They are at the center of everything that is ultimately important. A feeling that we belong to others, that there is a place we can call “home” that we are accepted for who we are- that’s what a loving family offers.
All of us have a natural desire to belong to an intimate community where acceptance, security and healing can be felt and celebrated as nowhere else. This longing is the driving force of almost all our actions. It leads us on a journey, which lasts a lifetime.
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) is a journey of adult persons who choose to look to the Roman Catholic religion for community and spiritual guidance in their personal lives. Most of us know that growing in spiritual insight and maturity is both challenging and reassuring. As we move forward in life, we need the comforting stories of those who have journeyed successfully before us. At the same time we look for spiritual support and friendship from companions along the way.
In the R.C.I.A., the church today supports and encourages the spiritual journeys of all of us. The R.C.I.A. is an ongoing four-step journey within the parish life. It is designed to welcome new members into the Catholic Church and at the same time to lead every Catholic parishioner to deeper belief and renewal of his or her Christian faith.
